Pneumatically engaged disc clutches are used, if compressed air is available or can be produced easily. This operating mode is preferred more and more for heavy construction machinery, ship propulsion systems, mining machinery, oil drilling and in press manufacturing. Control valves enable short engagement time. Additionally large bulks can be accelerated sensitively and slowly, depending on the built in control valve and requirements.
